I'm Still Here, I Promise!

I'm just posting a really quick update to let anyone who reads this blog that I'm still here. I'm just super stressed now with the end of the marking period at school and with college stuff. I have some fun news to share with you guys in a couple days, but I don't have time now to get into any of it. Just keep in mind that I'm going to try my hardest to keep up with blogging. Promise!

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

Not much time to talk today since the play I am is opening this weekend, so I thought that I would just share with you a few of my "favorite things". Hope you guys enjoy and I'll talk to you Monday!

I just about got done with this book, and I have to say, it's AMAZING. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but it's actually really good and it makes you think if what's happening in that book could happen in real life.











Cloverfield, if you don't know, is my favorite movie of all time. I know a lot of people probably wouldn't say that it's a good movie, but I LOVE it. I'll spare you the details as of why for a future blog post.











Now, don't make fun of me when I say this, but the yoga abilities on the Wii Fit Plus are amazing. I have lower back problems, and after doing a 10 or 15 minute session with it, it makes my back feel so much better. Definitely recommend it.











The Wide angle lens that I use with my Canon HV40. It works really well, and also has a macro attachment that comes with it. For $14, you can't go wrong.












My favorite TV show of all time. I got this set for Christmas and it comes with all the fixings that a Lost Lover like me needs. Finally finished collecting the Season 1 and Season 2 DVD sets, so all I need is Season 6 :-)











Now, I don't know if I can technically call it one of my favorite things, as I haven't read it yet, but it was recommended by the same person who recommended I read 1984, so I'm fairly certain it's going to be good. It's next on my list to read.











The shotgun mic that I'm in the process of ordering. The sound quality tests on YouTube seem to show that it works really well, and I've been needing a shotgun mic for the longest time.











The Play I'm in right now! I play Constable Locke (John Locke?!?!). Sorry, I had to. :-)












An amazing book featuring interviews from tons YouTuber's that I met over the last few years.












And last but not least.....

Borderline Concious

Please excuse any extreme mistakes in grammar, spelling, randomness and like such as. Running on a few hours of sleep because the school play I'm in opens in just about 48 hours, so we're been rehearsing like it's nobody's business.

Anywho, I have to say I've liked the new habit my area seems to have gotten itself into. You see, living in the Northeast, we can be confident that we WILL have cold/depressing weather until at least the end of April. But today was quite a surprise. Over 65 degree AND not a cloud in the sky.

SPRING IS HERE!!!!

So, being the insanely intuitive person I am (sarcasm), I decided that I shouldn't let the day go to waste and decided to take a drive. 45 minutes later I end up at a State Park, park the car, get out with my new camera, and just start wondering. I *think* I got some great footage, but I haven't loaded it into my computer yet, so I guess I'll wait and see until Monday after Play's over. The sun was so nice, and it reflected amazingly opposite the waterfalls that were at the park. All in all though, I have to say today was a nice change from the past few weeks. The weather was beautiful, I got some time to myself, and I was able to just walk around and relax.

I know this blog entry was random (and EXTREMELY pointless), believe me, but if I don't start doing this somewhat regularly, I'm going to forget all together. So it's better boring than not at all...

Protests and Alice in Wonderland = Saturday

Its raining.

It's pouring.

And Jana and I decide to leave play rehearsal to go to a protest.

Well, ANTI-protest I should say. Some of you may remember a few years ago when the Westboro Baptist Church went around to soldiers funerals and harassed the families with signs saying "Thank God for dead soldiers". If not, here's a picture just to show you a little bit of what they're about:

Now, I'm all for the right to free speech, don't get me wrong, but when you abuse this right to harass families and people to this sort of extreme, I'm not okay with that. As you can see, another popular sign that they tote around with them across the country is, "God Hates Fags". It just so happens that a local theater was putting on a performance of "The Larmine Project", a story about a kid named Matthew Shepard who was beaten to death in the 1990's because of the fact that he way gay. If that wasn't sad enough, on the day of his funeral, the Westboro Baptist Church (consisting primarily of a  family, with members at about 100) stood outside the church holding signs much similar to the ones above. Now, with "The Larmine Project" traveling around the country showing Matthew Shepard's tale, the W.B.C is following it to harass anyone wanting to see the show.

That's where Angel Action comes in. Jana had heard about it from her dad (who had heard of it from a friend), and we decided to become a part of it. Essentially, what Angel Action does is they create tall (about 8 or so feet tall and wide) wings made out of PVC pipe and sheets for people to wear, and they use them to create a circle around the W.B.C to block them out of sight. What makes this organization great is that they do it peacefully. "No angle is to speak to, look at, or acknowledgment the existence of anyone from the W.B.C," we were told when we got there (something about the W.B.C all being lawyers and what-not and funding their travels across the country based off lawsuits from protests). So, Jana and I strapped on our wings, flung ourselves out in the rain for an hour, and...

They never showed up...


Now, you might expect that we would get mad. Putting all that effort into preventing something that never happened. But we weren't upset. In fact, we were quite happy. I mean, we didn't have to worry about the protesters upsetting anyone who came out to see the show, and we were still able to prove the point that our community won't put up with hate and discrimination. To me, that's a success in itself. (I could have done without the downpour though, I would have been drier jumping into a pool). I'm so glad that I was able to be a part of that amazing event, and I hope that I can soon do something to this nature again.

Aside from the downpour (and having to walk half a mile in the rain back to my car), that was an amazing night. Afterward, Jana and I returned to play practice (completely soaked, I may add), and finished out the night. I then went to see Alice in Wonderland with a few other friends. All-in-all, I have to say it was a really good movie. Tim Burton did a good job mixing aspects from the book, from the original movie, and from his own imagination, creating a very pleasurable viewing experience. In my books, an 8.5-9 out of 10.

Protests and Alice in Wonderland make for a good Saturday night.

One Small Step for Karen/Conan O'Brien, One Large Step for YouTube!

It's an online movement.

Just how far does the power of the internet reach? I mean we got Betty White to host SNL, we got Nikki and Poulo kicked off of Lost (which I can't say that happy about, GO NIKKI AND POULO!!!), we helped to get Lady Gaga where she is today, our constant tweets about Haiti/Red Cross text messages contributed to one of the biggest relief aid packages, we even made sure a little lady named Rosa Parks stood up for what she believed in (huh?). What are we trying to do now? Get Spricket24 to host her YouTube show with none other than the leading ginger in charge Conan O'Brien!



Posted March 11, 2010, Karen Alloy (as her more intimate fans know her as) is a single mother of 3 who knows EXACTLY what she wants. And he just so happens to be stopping by Minnesota soon to preform in his new tour, fresh out of his Team Coco escapades. If you haven't seen this movement in action yet, lets do a little experiment.

Log onto twitter. Go to the search tool. Type in @conanobrien. Look at how many of them have something to do with someone by the name of @karenalloy. A lot? That's what I thought. Now, why am I taking concern for this project? Why should you care about this? I'll try to make it somewhat easy.

We're all a part of something called, "The Internet", or "New Media". "Traditional media" (aka Television, Film, etc) doesn't exactly know a lot about this, "New Media". So, what better way to merge these two GIANT forces than by taking Conan ("Traditional Media") and Karen ("New Media") and having him come on Karen's YouTube Show!

To me, this means a lot. It means that as someone who believes so heavily in the benefits of this online community (between facebook, youtube, twitter, blogger, etc), I will one day not have to worry about talking to someone face to face about a show I had seen online, or a YouTuber I just subscribed to, or a new blog I'm following, or how many twitter followers I have (I hate to use the word "in real life", because online is just as real as anything else). If we are successful in bringing Conan and Karen together for the purpose of creating one of her episodes starring him, we can be one step closer to making "The Internet" into something other than the scarlet letter that the news has deemed it in recent years.

So, how can you help? There's a couple of ways:

1- Log onto twitter and tweet this "RT Hey @ConanOBrien Please watch @KarenAlloy vid http://bit.ly/9tsU6U #ConanandKaren"

2- When tweeting, use the hashtag #conanandkaren

3- Write a blog post just like this to spread the word.


4- Join the Facebook Fan Page "http://www.facebook.com/pages/Conan-and-Karen-the-Happy-Happy-Redhead-Youtube-Spectacular/397638455405"

5- Do something that you think will get Conan's attention for this cause.




If you follow these 5 steps, we can become one step closer in lowering the boundary between New and Old Media! Do you part to bring together Team Coco and Karen together!


If this becomes a reality, which I believe that it will one day be, I thought of a question I would ask Conan through the wonderful Karen Alloy. "Conan, where do you see the internet and new media in 20 years?"
